Synopsis

At RedGate Park in Rockville, Maryland, the fairways and greens, once meticulously groomed when the site was a public golf course, are now inhabited by tall marsh grasses, dead river birch trees, overgrown shrubs, and 170 bird species. Amazed at the number of birds sighted at the park and alarmed that Rockville's mayor and city council were considering building housing on the city-owned land, birders and local residents mobilized to prevent development on the defunct golf course.  Bird Walk focuses on the birds and birdwatchers who have flocked to this 131-acre site, and on the citizen campaign which lobbied to preserve this open space as a public park.
